Weather Warning For The Vulnerable
Weather Warning for the Vulnerable
With temperatures continuing to rise across the country, heatwaves can present serious health risks for older people and other vulnerable members of our community. At Bramblings, the wellbeing and safety of our residents remain our highest priority, and we have put a range of measures in place to help everyone stay comfortable during the hot weather.
Older adults can be more susceptible to dehydration, heat exhaustion and heat-related illnesses, which is why our team remains particularly vigilant whenever weather warnings are issued. Throughout the day, staff actively encourage residents to drink plenty of fluids, offering regular refreshments, cold drinks and hydrating snacks to help maintain healthy hydration levels.
We are also taking steps to keep indoor temperatures as comfortable as possible. Curtains and blinds are closed during the hottest parts of the day to reduce heat build-up, while fans and well-ventilated communal areas provide cooler spaces for residents to relax and socialise.
Our Activities Team has adapted the daily programme to ensure residents can continue to enjoy meaningful activities without unnecessary exposure to the heat. Gentle indoor activities, social gatherings and one-to-one engagement sessions allow everyone to remain active while staying safe and comfortable.
The care team closely monitors residents for any signs of heat-related discomfort and provides additional support where needed. Individual care needs are carefully considered, ensuring that those who may be at greater risk receive the appropriate level of attention and assistance throughout the day.
Families can be reassured that our staff are following best practice guidance and taking every precaution to protect residents during periods of extreme weather. While many people enjoy the sunshine, we recognise that heatwaves can pose significant challenges for older adults, and our team is committed to maintaining a safe, comfortable and enjoyable environment for everyone in our care.
As the warm weather continues, we encourage visitors to join us in helping residents stay hydrated and comfortable. Together, we can ensure that everyone enjoys the summer safely.
